NEW POND...

Well it's not actually a new pond.... I'm extending the original pond..

The pond as existing

As you might be able to see from the photograph on the left, the pond is half way up on the left hand side, taking up just under half of the sunken lawn. I am extending in to take in nearly all the lawn, deepening it by about 2' and then making a seating area at the end nearest on the photograph.

The line of the extension can be just be seen marked out with the green hosepipe.
Work has started and the hole is getting bigger. I am piling the soil at the back of the old pond to give me a bank which will form my new waterfall.

The yellow pipe running across the 'hole' is the feed from the pond to the stream via a bio filter.
The digging starts

Here's the old man taking a rest between shovelsful...and it's good working in the shade..
In this photograph you can see, I am using the old 'Two Wheelbarrow System'...... I fill up two barrows and then wheel to debris away and tip it myself...... it saves getting out of the hole every time I want a wheelbarrow emptying. The old 2 wheelbarrow system

Got the old pond emptied , now I got to get rid of the mud from the bottom, remove the old liner and then break through to the new hole.
Will the patio every be tidy again..... yes it will, but maybe not tomorrow. We netted the holding tank to keep the fish in and cats out.. The patio

It's taken some work in the heat of the last few days, but the diggin is over and the pond is taking shape. Every drop has been dug out single handed, but the soil here is pretty sandy once you get down about a foot ( 30cm ).
It has rained all morning but with the hole finished it is time to carefully lay in the liner and start to fill the pond. The liner in place

Straightening the liner to avoid creases

As the pond fills, I constantly straighten the liner to avoid too many creases.
After fighting the weather all day ( It's been raining again !!! ) and reverting to using 3 hosepipe feeds ( courtesy of my two neighbours ), the pond is full at last. At least the water is in

Designer wear gone mad

OK... so here's the dilemma.... the water is very cold and even though it's raining I have to get on with the work. The work will take me over an hour.... so do I put my trunks on and rough it..... NO... I make myself some designer wear waders.
This fetching little number will be all the rage next season amongst pond keepers.... made from one length of visqeen.... a pair of wellington boots and waterproof duct tape..... just the job. Testing, testing, one, two, three...

Dry Stone walling ???

Do they still call it...'Dry Stone Walling' even if you're stood up to your gonads in water.
I got the stone laid in place and I'm ready to start on the waterfalls and getting the stream running again...... but now it's time for a warm bath... Yeah....Dry Stone Walling
